THE CATHEDRAL COLLEGE NEWS TERM 2 WEEK 1
EASTER BLESSINGS

REST IN PEACE HOLY FATHER
We remember and give thanks for Pope Francis who shepherded his people with a tender Father's love to eternal happiness in Christ Jesus.
On Easter Monday, he passed from this world returning to his Father's House with the Risen Christ after suffering humbly and courageously with continuing illness, a clear and vivid example of Christ's love to redeem the world.
He led with Christ's Mercy and Compassion and through his inspired writings encouraged the Church to be as a Field Hospital in ministering to the poor and marginalised, a call to creatively continue our social justice activity through our Stewardship program with reaches out to lift up lives.
His Encyclical Letter, 'Laudato Si - Care for our Common Home' implored a deeper love for our land, waters and skies, its earth and creatures, so as to sustain all of humanity. Celebrated at the College and coordinated by our Environmental Committee, Laudato Si Week attracts many beautiful photographic entries of nature each year, touching within a deeper appreciation and love for our world.
His message to young people in his Apostolic Exhortation Christus vivit is "Christ is alive and he wants you to be alive! He is in you, he is with you and he never abandons you. However far you may wander, he is always there, the Risen One. He calls you and he waits for you to return to him and start over again. When you feel you are growing old out of sorrow, resentment or fear, doubt or failure, he will always be there to restore your strength and your hope".
Pope Francis will be deeply missed. We look with hope to a new future guided by the Holy Spirit.
Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord,
May perpetual light shine upon him,
May he Rest in Peace,
Amen.

INTERNET SAFE EDUCATION PARENT PRESENTATION
TUESDAY 27 MAY
The College will welcome Brett Lee from Internet Safe Education to present to Year 7 - 10 students and to Parents on Tuesday 27 May.
The mission of ISE is to educate children so they can stay safe online, to enable children to use the internet in a healthy way and thrive online, and to educate teachers, parents and caregivers so they can support children online.
The Student and Parent Engagement Sessions aim to support young people and their parents/carers through navigating safe online practices considering the recent enactment of the Online Safety Amendment (Social Media Minimum Age) Act 2024 in December last year (Social media age restrictions | eSafety Commissioner). The legislation introduced a mandatory minimum age of 16 for accounts on certain social media platforms, forming one part of a broader strategy to create safer digital spaces for everyone.
There will be 4 student sessions throughout the day (one per year level starting in Year 7 through to Year 10) and a parent session beginning at 5pm (will be concluded by 7pm).
Through our engagement with Internet Safe Education this allows our College Community to access a 24 hour a day Cyber Safety Hub. Please click on the link below for more information about how to access this invaluable tool.
More information about how to register for the presentation will be delivered closer to the event.
Kind regards,
Mrs Sarah Coombs - Teacher and Special Projects Coordinator
